Most recently, our Dark Knight themed room caused a stir with Batman and movie fans. The positive reviews and comments were truly amazing. With the creative talent of our CEO, Bobby Bala, the Dark Knight themed room was born. The only catch to designing this room was that the customer was then going to purchase his home theater seating from us because at the core of our business we are a home theater seating manufacturer. From the early days of Elite Home Theater Seating to present day, our main focus has been to make the most luxurious home theater seating which we proudly do on a daily basis.

Since the Dark Knight themed room was released, our Twitter and Facebook pages have been inundated with requests for other themed room designs. We’ve been asked to make Finding Nemo, Jaws, Halloween (the Rob Zombie version), & even The Breakfast Club. All of these movies would make great themed home theater rooms. Just like the Dark Knight room, we are happy to fulfill this request as long as the seating is purchased from us as well. That’s a great deal!

The last long weekend of the summer is here which also means it’s back-to-school time as well. Some of the best Hollywood movies ever made have been based in school. There are so many “coming of age” teenage/school movies such as Grease, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Superbad, American Pie, American Graffitti, Dazed and Confused, National Lampoon’s Animal House, 16 Candles, Detroit Rock City, Old School, and probably the biggest teenage/school movie ever, The Breakfast Club. We’ve picked the best of this genre from the last five decades, from the 1970′s to present day. If you plan on staying in and enjoying the last long weekend of the summer of 2012, here are some movie choices for you.

National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978): Directed by John Landis and starring John Belushi, Mark Metcalf, & Kevin Bacon. Based in the 1960′s, this movie focuses on a group of misfit college fraternity kids that challenge the dean of their college. When two freshman try to join the Omega frat, they are instead pledged into Delta House, a frat known for their unorthodox rejects who are on the fringes of the “respectable” side of college. Toga parties, road trips, excessive drinking, and other misadventures run rampant throughout this classic. National Lampoon’s Animal House is a tribute to people who are picked on, ridiculed, and not accepted into regular society. (instant video via Amazon or purchase via Amazon here)

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986): Directed by John Hughes and starring Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, and Mia Sara. Ferris, played by Matthew Broderick sets out to have a day off while skipping school. He convinces his girlfriend, Sloane (played by Mia Sara) and his best friend Cameron, (played by Alan Ruck), to also skip classes and head into downtown Chicago. This movie was ground-breaking because it showed Ferris speaking directly to the camera as he explained his thoughts and techniques on how to manipulate his situation. From baseball games, to singing “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles in a parade, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is a fun movie showing you the perspective of a teenage kid who enjoys having some fun. Dazed and Confused (1993): Directed by Richard Linklater and a cast full of soon to be (at that time), stars with Jason London, Milla Jovovich, Ben Affleck, Adam Goldberg, & Matthew McConaughey in one of his greatest roles as David Wooderson. Dazed and Confused is set in the last day of school in June of 1976. Dazed and Confused was not a box office smash yet has become a cult classic with so many distinctive quotes. The clothing, the cars, and the soundtrack are all authentic 1970′s so if you didn’t know it was made in 1993, you would think it was from the 70′s. If you were a teenager in the 1970′s this movie will bring back memories and if you weren’t a teenager back in the 1970 ‘s, Dazed and Confused will make you wish you were.  (instant video via Amazon or purchase via Amazon here)

Superbad (2007): Directed by Greg Mottola and starring Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Seth Rogen, & Emma Stone.  Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) are two high school seniors set out to win over the girls they like at a party thrown by Jules (Emma Stone). The saviour of the movie is Fogell, aka McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), the geeky kid that gets a fake ID to buy alcohol for the big party. If you’re offended by vulgar language and adolescent behaviour than Superbad is not the movie for you however this is one of the movies that has so many great scenes and great lines that you will find yourself laughing uncontrollably. (instant video via Amazon or purchase via Amazon here)

The Breakfast Club (1985): Directed by John Hughes and starring Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, & Paul Gleason. No other teen movie has captured the attention of a genre like The Breakfast Club. One of the most popular hits from a soundtrack, “Don’t You Forget About Me’ by Simple Minds is from this movie. Five kids are in detention on a Saturday, all five from total different backgrounds, and all forced to spend the day in the library together. This movie is hilarious and an absolute time piece from the 1980′s. With it’s humor, there are some serious  issues dealt with.  Domestic issues, stereo-types, teenage struggles, teenage crushes, and teens looking for a sense of belonging make The Breakfast Club a multi-generational movie. This movie is considered to be the best of its genre and after twenty-seven years, The Breakfast Club is still as popular as it was back in 1985. A classic to say the least. Now fast forward to present day where all of your friends and yourself included, have kids and all you look forward to on the weekends is coming home and having a nice relaxing night with your family (and friends if you call them over).  What a difference a few years can make.  Your dress shirt and dress from your club days is now a t-shirt that has a print of your kids dance class on it and that dress is now a pair of comfy track pants, (or yoga pants for you trendy moms).  From screaming loud conversations at a night club to screaming kids running around, sometimes you need something to get them to relax and not be so loud.  We have a guaranteed way for you to get your kids to relax and what’s better than a movie?  A great movie can calm down any child or group of children and this option does not consist of hiring a babysitter for the night.  It’s a win win situation.

You call your friends over with their children for a fun night together.  The parents can have “grown up” conversations while all the kids can play together and watch a movie in your home theater.  What movies can help a group of, lets say, fifteen kids who are in the same age range?  Here are five of our picks and in no particular order:  

1. Toy Story has always been popular with kids, we think it’s the piggy bank that steals the show
2. Finding Nemo is a great  movie, even though the opening scene is a downer, the movie is funny
3. Babe captivates kids all the time.  Personally, we thought Gordy was great too
4. Wallace & Gromit in The Wrong Trousers even the title is funny
5. Home Alone, even if it’s not Christmas time, this movie is a sure hit 

There are some essentials to having a home theater, not only for yourself but also for your kids. One of the most important aspects of child-friendly home theater seating would be leather seats. You know they’re going to spill every little drop of every thing you give them, from juice to popcorn, it’s best not to have cloth seats so the clean-up stage is always easy. Don’t forget, kids love to draw and they’ll draw on anything. From your seating to themselves and the adventurous kids will draw on other kids so try to keep all drawing tools away. If you do give them crayons or markers, leather seating comes in practical once again (and some handy wipes would be great too).

We also recommend to keep all the electronics out of reach. Put your flat screen TV up high enough so they don’t damage it. You know one of the little girls will go running to try and hug one of the characters like Babe so keep those TV’s at least four feet off the ground. You don’t want to have a sippy cup inside your subwoofer, (well we hope you don’t want it in there). If you don’t keep your speakers at a level they cannot reach. Yes the subwoofer has to be on the ground so keep it out of reach, if it’s in an enclosed area, even better. All the chords and wires are hidden so that isn’t a concern and as long as you have patience to handle a large group of kids, you are all set. A home theater can be a great way to have your friends over and reminisce about those crazy single days while keeping your kids entertained at the same time. A great home theater, along with great movies, will give you even better stories to share, stories that will surpass those stories of nights out in your single days.

Just one more important factor to consider. Please keep away from zombie movies as the little guy in the picture above seems to be adapting to the genre with pure delight. The cat though, not so much!
