Today is New Years Eve! The day we celebrate around the world. A day we look back at the past year and look forward to making the next year even better. Last week we took a look back at 2012 and realized what we accomplished as a company.

Thanks to you, we have shown even more growth this year. Our success if because of our customers and we will always be grateful to you all. We embraced the world of social media with great success and again, we thank you. As we ring in the new year, we want to give you a quick guide to which shows you can watch if you decide to stay in and enjoy hitting midnight with your loved ones.

1) Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve: Dick Clark is a cultural icon and even though he has passed away, his legacy will live on forever. The Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve is set for another year with host Ryan Seacrest. The special is followed by four hours of New Year’s Eve coverage — on both the east and west coasts — hosted by Ryan Seacrest with Jenny McCarthy. Taylor Swift, Canada’s own Carly Rae Jepsen and Neon Trees are in line for the New York City bash that culminates with the must-watch Times Square ball drop. On the west coast, host Fergie of The Black Eyed Peas introduces Brandy, Flo Rida, Karmin, OneRepublic and Pitbull.

2) New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly: The Voice host welcomes Season 3 winner Cassadee Pope, Train and The Office’s Angela Kinsey to the special, broadcast live from Times Square.

3) New Years Eve Live on Fox: In Living Color alum Marlon Wayans gets the party started in Las Vegas with help from X Factor winner Tate Stevens, Lifehouse and Carmen Electra.

4) CityTV’s New Years Eve Bash: The show will be hosted by CityNews anchor Gord Martineau; Breakfast Television’s Kevin Frankish and Dina Pugliese; and CityLine host Tracy Moore. Karl Wolf, JRDN, George Canyon, and the cast of American Idiot are all scheduled to perform.

2012: A Look Back

Another year has gone by so quickly and it was a year of some great milestones, some new beginnings, and some great memories. 2012 was the year we took on social media with our accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest and we also committed ourselves to do more blogging because we love talking about all things home theater. Smart TV’s, Cloud Based DVR’s, The Dark Knight, Home Theater Themed Rooms, and Home Theater Trends really caught our attention. There were events outside of home theater that also made huge headlines. From happy moments like the second term win of President Barack Obama, the Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup, and we can’t forget how the world danced in unison to Gangnam Style. There were also sad moments the tragedy of Hurricane Sandy, the horrific school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, and the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting. Just like any year, there were amazing achievements and tragic events, that’s just how it goes. Let’s focus on the good and recall some of our favourite home theater blogs of 2012. The Amazing Spider-Man Blu-ray

Today The Amazing Spider-Man is released on Blu-ray! When we all heard about the reboot that was released earlier this year, we were excited and for good reason. The Amazing Spider-Man grossed $700 million in the theaters and was a world-wide hit. Finally today, it is out on Blu-ray in a few formats, Blu-ray 3D, as well as Blu-ray, DVD and UltraViolet.

Directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans, this reboot has Peter Parker finding a clue that might help him understand why his parents disappeared when he was young. His path puts him on a collision course with Dr. Curt Connors, his father’s former partner. Instead of a part 4 of the Spider-Man series, The Amazing Spider-Man made many fans and critics wonder why we would get another reboot so soon but luckily they did. This movie was exactly what this franchise needed.

Denon Introduces Two New Home Theater Systems

Denon will be introducing two new home theater surround sound systems, the DHT-8313, (MSRP $445), and the DHT-S413 (MSRP $573). There is no word right now if this will be available in North America, however if this system is as good as people are saying, we want to ensure we discuss this will you all.

Original reports state that the DHT-8313 is perfect for a 32″ TV with output levels of 20W x 3 for the front speakers and 20W from the subwoofer. The DHT-S413 is made for 40″ TV screens and higher with front speakers output of 25W x 3 and 25W for the subwoofer. Each version has the Dolby Virtual Speaker surround sound, Dolby Pro Logic ll, DTS support, PCM audio for Blu-ray, and a surround option with five genre specific modes.

Surround sound and the placement of the speakers is detrimental to your home theater. The great people at HD Nation speak indepth about this in the clip below. Regardless that this clip is a few years old, the basis of the topic is interesting.

Denon states they have “raised the bar” with their two new systems. We understand the importance of a sound system and where it’s placed. Just click on the picture to the left for a bigger version to help you set up your home theater. We have examples on how to layout your theater right here on our website under the heading, “Layout Ideas”. These are just diagrams but we do custom layout configurations for our customers.

We hope the DHT-8313 and the DHT-S413 are released in North America so we can have more reviews about it and we can hear it for ourselves. If Denon has raised the bar, we would love to test this out. There are so many choices on the market so choosing a surround sound system can be hard. We ensure to write about as many new releases as possible to give you options to choose from.

Apple TV & Google Nexus Q: Will This Revolutionize Home Theater?

In 2007 Apple launched Apple TV. Digital contents via Netflix, iTunes, YouTube, and other various contents stored on your computer can be viewed directly to your HD widescreen TV. Streamed sporting events such as NHL or NBA games, movies can be rented or purchased directly from iTunes, & all your music and pictures stored in iTunes can also be seen on through Apple TV. With a Wi-Fi connection, Apple TV can be streamed to your TV and your iPhone can also be used as a remote. Apple TV retails for $109 USD. The following clip will give you great insight as to how Apple TV operates.

Google has now released the Google Nexus Q. Through Google Play, you can play music or movies through your Android phone or from your media tablet via Google Play Music. You can watch YouTube however Netflix is not available. Nexus Q is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, an amp, & analog speaker outputs, Apple TV has neither of these options. The Nexus Q retails for $299.00 USD. The following video will give you a better understanding of the Nexus Q.

With devices like these there is no need to purchase physical DVD’s and CD’s. All the contents are either streamed or stored on your computer. For those of you who enjoy owning the physical DVD or CD, this may deter you from purchasing it. Those of you that don’t care to own any physical format, this can be a new way to enjoy movies, concerts, and sporting events. Your home theater can have an unlimited catalogue, dependent if iTunes has what you want to watch (if you choose Apple TV).

Home theater can benefit from devices like these and it’s up to the consumer if they would like to move away from traditional media platforms. Now your home theater can feature family vacations, weddings, & birthdays. Just how popular this will become is unknown however, do your research. Smart TV’s

Home theater has a new product to add to its collection. Samsung has introduced their new line, the LED 8000 and 7500 Series Smart TV’s, which come in two sizes, 55″ and 51″. The smart TV is a web browser, a video phone, and a 2D & 3D television. The premier version, the 55″ LED 8000 series retails for $3,749.99.

A list of functions on the new Smart TV:

Gesture control allows you to manually operate your TV without the use of a remote control. The user operates the TV by using their hands to choose what it is they would like to experience on the TV. This is not a touch screen either, you simply move your hands and the TV reads your movement and selects the choice you want.

A Smart Touch Remote Control also comes with the TV which allows you to navigate your TV with a fully functional touch pad. The remote has a built-in microphone for giving your TV voice commands.

A wireless keyboard that accompanies this TV can be used to navigate the internet or use for numerous functions on the TV as well.

A built in camera allows you to video chat via Skype and the Smart Hub gives you access to all the features of the smart TV. Social media platforms like Facebook , Twitter, and YouTube are integral to the features of this TV. Samsung apps can be downloaded, similar to apps for the iPhone and iPad, ranging from sports, weather, entertainment (Netflix), and a variety of other apps..

Updating the TV is also a simple procedure. The “Evolution Kit” will allow you to keep your TV current and updated with the latest technology available. If you have a Samsung phone or Galaxy tablet, there is a free Smart View app that transforms your smart phone into a remote, all while having a Wi-Fi signal.

A smart TV can change how we operate in the confines of your home theater environment. Not only can we watch movies and sports but now we can surf the net, send out a tweet, or video call a friend or family.
