Die Hard: The 25th Anniversary Edition

Yippee ki yay, the Die Hard series is reaching the 25th anniversary with a great new Blu-ray release. John McClane (Bruce WIllis), has become a beloved movie character and with a new movie coming out this year (A Good Day To Die Hard), to coincide with the 25th anniversary, 20th Century Fox is releasing the first four movies in a special edition Blu-ray DVD. 2012: A Look Back

December 20th, 2012

Another year has gone by so quickly and it was a year of some great milestones, some new beginnings, and some great memories. 2012 was the year we took on social media with our accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest and we also committed ourselves to do more blogging because we love talking about all things home theater. Smart TV’s, Cloud Based DVR’s, The Dark Knight, Home Theater Themed Rooms, and Home Theater Trends really caught our attention. There were events outside of home theater that also made huge headlines. From happy moments like the second term win of President Barack Obama, the Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup, and we can’t forget how the world danced in unison to Gangnam Style. There were also sad moments the tragedy of Hurricane Sandy, the horrific school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, and the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting. Just like any year, there were amazing achievements and tragic events, that’s just how it goes. Let’s focus on the good and recall some of our favourite home theater blogs of 2012. DIY Home Theater

Home owners take pride in renovating their houses themselves. Over the years home improvement stores are in every city, from the small towns to the big metropolis’.  TV shows like Extreme Makeover:Home Edition and Holmes on Homes are also fan favourites with strong weekly viewerships. A home theater can be done on a budget and it’s not true that only the mega-rich can afford to have one. For the DIY home theater builders amoungst us, here are some tips to get your home theater up and running.

 

1) Designate your room:  Once you know exactly which room you’re going to convert to your home theater, you can start assembling your room. This may sound obvious but it’s important. Since you will be spending an ample amount of time in this room, you want to ensure the location in your house is ideal.

2) TV or projector: Dependant on the size of the room and what you prefer, choose wisely. You’ll be staring at this for hours at a time so make sure you buy something that you will enjoy watching.

3) Backlighting: In order to create a sense of depth to your home theater, add a back light to your TV. You’ll have less strain on your eyes

4) Receiver: Buy a receiver that can support your home theater equipment, (speakers, blu-ray player, TV, etc). Ensure the power you want is enough for you needs.

5) Speakers: A necessity to a home theater is to have great audio. Do some research and find the best for your needs. Too much can be annoying, get what’s needed.

6) Blu-ray player: Blu-ray is the best way to watch a movie or event. The visual quality is far superior to standard DVD players.

7) Wiring: Run your wires so it’s not visible to anyone. If you need professional assistance with your wiring, please ensure you get someone that will do this properly. You don’t want to start a fire because of faulty wiring.

8) Seating: This is of major importance! Comfort and layout play a key role in your home theater. Not only do you want to sit comfortable you want to ensure your seating compliments your room. The size of your room and the style of seating have to compliment each other. 

9) Layout: You want to be comfortable and able to view your TV/projector. Sight lines are an important element to consider. Nobody wants their view blocked.

10) Theme: The theme does not have to be like our Dark Knight theater but a constant theme is important. Colour, fabric (seating fabric plays a role), pillows, wall colour, and wall artwork all have to be universal. Pick your theme and design around it.

The HGTV clip above shows you an ideal DIY home theater situation and the outcome is great. You can cut costs down and do it on a budget. Do your research and look online for deals before you get started on building your home theater room. We can stress enough how important this decision is because you will be spending ample amount of time in your home theater so make it enjoyable for you and your family. Over the years, here at Elite Home Theater Seating, we ventured into theater designs, specifically for customers that want a themed room. As home theater seating manufacturers, we pride ourselves in the luxury our products give our customers. Our main focus has always been home theater seating and we continue to make the best in the business. Sit in one of our seats and you will feel the difference. However if a customer requests a themed room design we are exciting to do that for them.

Most recently, our Dark Knight themed room caused a stir with Batman and movie fans. The positive reviews and comments were truly amazing. With the creative talent of our CEO, Bobby Bala, the Dark Knight themed room was born. The only catch to designing this room was that the customer was then going to purchase his home theater seating from us because at the core of our business we are a home theater seating manufacturer. From the early days of Elite Home Theater Seating to present day, our main focus has been to make the most luxurious home theater seating which we proudly do on a daily basis.

Since the Dark Knight themed room was released, our Twitter and Facebook pages have been inundated with requests for other themed room designs. We’ve been asked to make Finding Nemo, Jaws, Halloween (the Rob Zombie version), & even The Breakfast Club. All of these movies would make great themed home theater rooms. Just like the Dark Knight room, we are happy to fulfill this request as long as the seating is purchased from us as well. That’s a great deal!

CEDIA 2012 Expo Summary

September 12th, 2012

Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) is an expo based around home theater, home automation, and home electronic. The 2012 expo was held in Indianapolis, IN which ran from September 5 till 8. For those of you that follow us on Twitter, you would have seen links to articles featuring the new 4K TV’s, wireless home theater systems,  and soundbars. These were some of the many important new equipment and technology showcased at CEDIA. Here is a quick recap of the 2012 expo:

Soundars: These soundbars are equipped with features of an AV receiver with wireless sub and Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio.

4K TVs: 4K TV’s are starting to become the next big thing in home theater equipment. Recently we did a blog on the Sony 4K TV which you can view here. If you recall, the price was set approximately around $22,000.

Wireless: Wireless connections from smartphones and internet devices was popular. A wireless home theater cannot be 100% wireless because you need power but the option to have wireless connectivity to your equipment is sought after.

Automation: When technology and convenience merge, you get home automation. An example is the Sony/Control4 receiver which enables your Sony remote to control your entire home theater. Read the review from CE Pro by clicking here.

CEDIA gives you a direct look at all the new features, innovations,and equipment for home electronics. Customizing Your Chair With Elite HTS

Here at Elite Home Theater Seating we emphasize why our chairs are of the finest quality and the best on the market. Previously, we’ve discussed the foam density, the fabric choices we have, the fine craftsmanship, and the ten year warranty. All of these reasons as well as others can be found on our website. We also have an interactive seat customizer on our site for you to use.  Today we want to focus on how many options you have to customize our chairs to your specifications.

Arm Style: We have ten different arm styles to choose from. Style D has a classic design while style A & J have modern sloping styles. Each arm style comes with a cupholders, all made from top quality metals that are scratch and chip resistant. Arm Style F has hidden cupholders for those of you that like to have an alternative to the visible cupholder.

Back Rest: There are eight designs to choose from. An adjustable head rest is one option and if this isn’t your style, there are others dependent on your preference and body type.

Fabric and Colour: We have three fabrics to choose from, Valentino Leather, Silk Leather, and Cine-Suede. If you would like to use your own fabric, that is also an option. Each fabric style has numerous colours to choose from. From traditional colours like black, white, and blue or more unique like seagull blue, rust, grape, sienna, etc. the amount of colour choices will suit your style and preference.

Foam Density: With three foam density choices, soft, medium, and firm, you can customize to your preference. Each density is of the highest quality low memory foam which will supply comfort and support for many years.

Accessories: We have great options to choose from with swivel trays, custom storage compartments, and the Crowson TES 100, a blog we did recently can be seen here. Each chair comes with a motorized reclining mechanism for premium comfort.

Are Home Theaters Driving People Away From Stadiums?

A recent article in the Longview, Texas News Journal, entitled “Home Theaters Rivaling Stadiums”, stated technology has given the consumer greater opportunity to own big screen TV’s since the price has dropped so much over the past few years. With LCD, LED, and Plasma TV’s as well as state of the art sound systems, the need to go to a busy stadium isn’t necessary.  With TV stations all in HD, the quality is just as good at home than it is in the stadium itself.

The article mentions the seating in an arena or stadium, comfort is usually not thought of. In a home theater environment, seat selection can be customized to your liking which makes the home environment ideal for sports viewing. Dependent on the size of your home theater room, you can have the layout that best suits your needs. Having friends and family over to watch a big game can be shared with the exact number of people you want around. If you all cheer for the same team, the intimate setting can make for exciting times. Instead of 20,000 to 70,000 people screaming and chanting, you have close friends and family all cheering for the  same team.

Thearticle, “Home Theaters Rivaling Stadiums” made mention of how important draft beer is for many beer drinkers.  At one time you could only purchase draft beer in bars or events such as concerts, sporting events, or in restaurants. Nowadays, the home owner can purchase a home keg refrigerator so you can pour your own draft beer in the comfort of your own home. If this isn’t of importance to you than a home keg is not needed at all. If you’re not a big drinker you probably don’t like being around all those in the stadiums that do. You can be free of the drinking environment in your own home.

An important cost not mentioned was the price of tickets. Going to an NFL or NHL game can cost you  a lot of money. According to Ticketmaster, a Seattle Seahawks game ranges from $65.00 to $425.00 . Let’s not forget to mention travel expenses and the travel time. Fuel prices are at a high everywhere.

Will attendance be down at these games or will people still attend like they have in previous years? It really depends on your situation. If you like the crowd and the environment or if you prefer the commentators on TV and the intimacy you can only have in your home. Watching sporting events in the home is a positive environment that brings people together as well.
